Help us Save Grimethorpe Hall

Last Chance Saloon

November 2016

Once again we seem to be struggling, with the building having been taken over by the crown, government legal department, bona vacantia, due to the owners non compliance with companies house requirements. This has stopped the involvement of BMBC and Heritage England, so any grants or aid that were promised have been stopped. Added to that there’s a charge held against the property at the land registry, of about £115k. Which according to the solicitors working for the crown is still in place, which is most unusual, as normally any debt etc goes down with the company.

The £115k debt is the killer, which one our team is in the process of trying to clarify the situation with the crown solicitors.
The local mp for the grimethorpe hall area, is michael dugher, but as a non Grimethorpe resident he can’t work on my behalf (John Hardman) due to some political protocol or other. He’s stopped having his surgery at Cudworth since the Joe Cox incident. so any communication has to be by email, or by appointment at his Hoyland office.
Having paid him four or more visits at his surgery, and tweeted him that many times he must be fully aware of the predicament of the hall.
We also contacted Dan Jarvis the MP for central Barnsley, stating that we as a group we’re trying to turn the hall into accommodation for war veterans. But his assistant said “that he get’s numerous requests and can’t help every one of them”.

I just wonder what his old army colleagues would think of this?

Having been forgotten and neglected by the political classes
Might it possible to make contact with Michael Dugher requesting his assistance

THE GROUP – B.M.B.C. – HERITAGE ENGLAND MEETING

sadly due to ownership problems once again. the grants and funding from b.m.b.c. and heritage england cannot be used on the building as of yet. this is due to legal implications due to the current ownership.

the groups meeting with bmbc and heritage england on the 16th august 2016carried
on for over two hours, but had a positive conclusion. heritage england have decided
to grant £10,000 to the £6,000 already available bmbc section 106 monies for
essential emergency repairs. the work is intended to make the roof watertight,
and with brickwork in the window openings to support the stone lintels and stop
overhead brickwork from collapsing. the intention is to carry out this work before
the onset of winter. but this can only be done once company ownership is confirmed.
with the company that owned the building being registered in gibralter,
and the company having ceased trading, this leaves a grey area. so we are now
waiting for the hm treasury to supply us with ownership information.
heritage england and bmbc have arranged for an aerial platform to view
the condition of the roof, roof valleys and run off area’s. from the inspection
they will be able to determine what urgent work needs to be carried out.

GRIMETHORPE HALL TUNNEL

as a child there were rumours that still persist, about a tunnel leading from
grimethorpe hall (197ft altitude)to what is known as brierley manor
(heading 63 degrees – 390ft altitude approx) . brierley manor ( farm ) is roughly 3/4 of a mile
from the hall and is adjacent to ringstone hill triangulation point.
the area being a fantastic viewing point for the southern pennines and
also the flatlands to the east.
the tunnel idea seems an improbable if not impossible mining / engineering task,
a few of the problems being, distance, elevation, direction, and ventilation.
